How to get US Passport after applying for PIO card

I applied for the PIO card for my son 30 days ago. I went to the DC Embassy in person and gave my son's Original US Passport.
I have an emergency situation now and I need to travel to India in 10 days.
I have to travel with my family.

Now, is it possible to get the US Passport from the Indian embassy and apply for an emergency visitor visa for my son?

I want the Passport when the PIO card processing is not completed. It takes 2 months at DC Embassy. But, I want to get the passport in one month only.

My only suggestion would be to return to the DC Indian Embassy, explain the situation (any documentation you have, like emails, may be helpful) and beg. I wouldn't rely on phone calls or email.

Keep in mind that it may get in the way of the PIO process completing, and in that case you'd have to get a regular visa for your son.
