Correction of father's name in passport

Hello All,

My fiancee applied for the passport but the name of her father is not printed compleltely. As per her 10th class and other records her father's name should be G Venkata SubbaRao (Original name is removed). But in passport it is printed as G SubbaRao (Venkata is removed). I'm not sure about the importance of having Venkata in the passport, as it is mentioned in the records. Also, when she applied for a correction, they were asking about the newspaper ads. I'm not understanding why on earth, a newspaper ad is required here. Please enlighten me.
