OCI application dropoff personally at CGI Houston. Is it worth the effort?

immihelp.com suggests sending e-mail to [email protected] for an appointment to submit application personally.
The site also lists document drop off time 2:00p to 4:00p M-F.
What is the latest?
Is it worth spending an afternoon there? Can I get an acknowledgement number right away?
or mailing it is better?

I submitted my application through mail about 3 weeks back and my OCI status has changed to "Granted" - although not stamped yet.

So I would say unless you live very near to the consulate, mailing is just fine as well.
