  • OCI Delays - Typical Indian Attitude?

    Dear Sir/Madam,

I applied for the OCI Card on June 9, 2009. I have an application number and as of today the tracking web page indicates that this application is yet to be acknowledged. Although I could visit the OCI Cell in Washington DC due to the proximity, I have not done it.

My million dollar questions are (1) Write to the Deputy - Hon Mr. Arun K. Singh providing all the pertinent details and request assistance to obtain a refund of US$250.00 due to delays in getting the OCI or (2) File a new petition again spending time, energy and money.

Your assistance and/or guidance is sought to follow the appropriate step. Even when I am of Indian Origin, I have no staunch desire or need to visit India. There are equally beautiful places with rich history in Europe. Has this been experienced by anyone else? It seems that the age old tradition of graft and bribery is still embedded in the Babus occupying the offices here. I am sure if I were to apply to the US Government for any reason, I would have notified of the outcome as well as an explanation if my request was in any way out of the norms and current regulations.

The best I could say is that you keep communicating with the Indian embassy - OCI cell for the status of your application.
