  • OCI for Sri Lankan nationals

    Hi,

I am a Sri Lankan national married to an Indian citizen. I have been a resident in India since June 2003, on an employment visa.

My parents and grand parents are Sri Lankan nationals.

Am I eligible to apply for OCI on the grounds that I am married to an Indian citizen?

    Please let me know.

    Thanks and regards,

      Thanks for your response.

I think Sri Lankans are not eligible for PIO anymore. Sri Lanka has been added to the list of countries not eligible.

You may be eligible for Indian citizenship.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.

          Hi,

I m not sure if you are still looking for this information but just thought this would help for the people who want this particular piece of info in future.

Here you go, PIO or OCI are not at all available to srilankans. But incase if you are married to an indian citizsen, then you can request for an extention of visa. If you have a valid visa, you have to carry

          1. Passport (Photocopy of validity page and visa page along with the PP)
          2. Marriage certificate
          3. Self request letter
4.Police clearence certificate ( only for srilnakans)
          5. Photo (2)

Carry two photocopies of above said. Incase if you have lost your
PP and got a new one, then you should carry the NOC from that high commission. For instance, if a srilankan national have lost the PP, then should carry the no objection certificate issued from SL high commission. To obtain this, you should carry the FIR filed in the police station with Photo.

If you dont have a valid visa, then also you can apply in the same manner but accepting it for extention is solely depends on the kind officers there. Otherwise you will be issued with an exit visa and make sure to produce the marriage certificate to avoid overstay stamp on your PP. in this case you can enter in to india without any hazzle. Hope this helps to people who are really helpless in this regard.

Also whereever you are you can approch the FRRO and some have the check list of things that you need to carry. These applications are accepted between 9.30 to 12.30pm only.

            Hi,

Regarding OCI , I have the FAQ on the Indian Ministry of External Affairs site which indicates that OCI will not be given for Pakistan and Bangladesh nationals only. It does not mention about Srilankans.

Are u very sure that Srilankans can't get OCI? can u please link me to the site which says so.

            Rgds.
