PIO validation on renewed passport

Does anyone know the process and document required to validate existing non-expired PIO card on renewed passport. Any help is appreciated. Its urgent as we will be traveling to India in 3 weeks.
Also, can someone let me know if alternately its OK to travel to India with old & new passport and the valid PIO card having old passport number endorsed. Would this be acceptable?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'validate existing non-expired PIO card on renewed passport'. I assume that you have a US passport, and there's no PIO info in there.

What you need to do is to get your area Indian consulate to add the new passport info into your PIO booklet. There's space for two updates on page 1, just across from the inside cover. Not sure if traveling with old and new passports would work. Do post the results if you find out...

Sorry for delayed posting.
The situation was for my son whose US passport had expired and the PIO card referred to the old passport number.
We went to India and carried his old and new passport along with the PIO card. This worked fine without any issues.

For kids, in case of new passport,

in case of PIO card, you can carry both passports and it would work.
in case of OCI card, you will have to get the passport number in the OCI card. In short, get new OCI card. Carrying both passports would not work.

How strange and inconsistent?
