In the case of name change through marriage, ARE COURT DOCUMENTS REQUIRED? I called the OCI office and their answer was unclear. They said that a proof of a legal change will be required. If people send the marriage certificate and change on passport, is it sufficient proof? The OCI office indicated that it "should be done by a lawyer." Being a lawyer myself, this is really a funny requirement since a name change by marriage does not legally require any registration with court. The marriage certificate itself makes it legal. Please advise.
