  • PIO for my baby

    Hi,

I am on H4 and my husband is n H1b visa.
i have a new born for whom i need PIO card.
My question is, that what is a better option - PIO card or visa.
Also the documents required for applying.
How long does it generally take to get the PIO card.

    thanks!!

PIO card is definitely better -- it's good for 15 years and has fewer restrictions (like length of stay in India) than a tourist visa. India is tightening up on tourist visas, another good reason to go with PIO.
Also the documents required for applying.
Different US consulates have different document requirements.

How long does it generally take to get the PIO card.
The timing also varies with different consulates -- I got mine from Houston in four weeks. Each consulate website has timing info.

      PIO is always better........

first and foremost benefit............ur baby will get a visa free entry to India as long as the PIO card is valid + it should be accompanied with a valid US passport..........visa serves only 1 purpose whereas PIO serves multiple.....!!!

U can't go directly and apply....first apply online and it will generate a serial number on a fillable PDF form.......fill in all details and take print.........!!!

Supporting documents to be produced :

We applied in New York and we got it within a weeks time.

Additional Info : PIO card has an endorsement page inside, stating the person on PIO is eligible for a visa free entry to INdia when accompanied with a valid US passport.
