  • First time visa to India

I recently became US citizen by naturilization and used to be Indian passport holder earlier. I do not have any OCI/PIO status yet (plan to do later this year). I need to go to India for a short trip; single entry is sufficient. I live under San Francisco Indian consulate jurisdiction.

    a. What kind of visa should I apply? I thought a tourist visa should be sufficient but travista website mentions people of Indian origin should apply for entry visa. The consular fees are also higher ($60 min. vs. $100 min.). I only need a single entry visa as I plan to apply for OCI later this year.

    b. I cannot locate my Indian passport though I have the photocopies. What is the additional documentation needed in this case? I see that for OCI there are some instructions in the consular website (birth certificate + education certificate + notary etc. in case Indian passport is not available) but I could not find anything similar when applying for visa.

Thanks for help. First time posting and appologize if already answered earlier; could not find through search.

You need to apply for Entry Visa with the following docs:
Entry Visa Application; Valid US Passport; 2 PP Photos; US Address Proof(Driving License); Indian Birth Certificate or School Leaving Certificate; Renunciation Form. The fees is $100 + $13 = $113.
