What is the renunciation certificate requirement?

Hello,

I keep hearing about the requirement for a "Certificate" for having renounced my Indian Citizenship. It is utterly confusing to me.

I got US Citizienship about 4 years ago. After getting it, we (Me and my wife) immidiately applied for OCI. At the time of the OCI application, we were asked to surrender our Indian Passports. When we collected our OCI, our Indian passports were cancelled and handed back to us. After that we have made few trips to India on our US passport and OCI.

Now, do I need to get this renunciation certificate? And if so, what is the procedure?
