Indian Passport Renewal

HI All,
My Indian Passport is due to expire on 7th of May and I have been waiting for CKGS to open operations so that I can submit my application for renewal. They are closed for a few weeks now and will be until further notice.
I am in USA on a H4 EAD and reached out to the support already.

I have 2 questions,

1. Is it ok per law now that I still have a valid VISA to work and Stay in USA beyond May 7th?
2. Is there another way to submit renewal?

Appreciate a quick response from anyone who has knowledge on this situation.

CGI response:

Reference your trailing mail in r/o renewal of your passport.
2. Since you do not have any coming or ongoing extension , you have time to take a decision as the current closure of CKGS and freeze on normal/tatkal passport services is a temporary measure due tothe Covid 19.
3. Please wait until the situation becomes normal.
4. Please be safe and be assured that the Consulate will be there to help you in case of any problem on this count.

Passport rule
Indian passport holders can apply for renewal of passport one year before the expiry date till with in 3 years of expiry of the passport. with a a valid legal status.

did you manage to get your passport renewed?
I am in a similar situation and CKGS has not been responding. Plus there are posts on this forum where CKGS has been in possession of passports for over a month or has simply lost them, and has not been responding to add to the misery. I am super skeptical of the process
