  • Reg father's and mother's name sequence change in passport renewal application

    Hi Team,

I am in process of submitting passport renewal application in SFO center wherein I observed that my father's and mother's name printed on current holding passport is in sequence of -
    <Last name> <Given name>.

I have kept the same name(as per the current holding passport) in ckgs website (https://passport.in.ckgs.us/).

While filling the details in Government site for NRI passport form (https://portal4.passportindia.gov.in/), it's specifically asking for given name and surname for father's and mother's name.
Due to which sequence is getting changed on passport preview page and it is in below format-
    <Given name> <Last name>.

Kindly advise if it's OK to continue with this OR do we have alternatives for the same.
I would be grateful for your prompt response.

    Thank you.

    Regards,
    Pratik

Unless there is a separate space for given name and last name, use <Given names> <Last name>

          Hi Pratik0402 2 Liberty48
I have the same issue. How did you enter the name in the NRI form? Did you enter actual Last Name in the "Given Name" field so that it appears the same as current passport in the preview page?

          Thanks for the help

                Hi Vijaydd ,
                Hi Pratik0402 ,
                Hi har_rai Hi fed20 ,
I'm in same situation as you all. My parents names are mentioned as last name followed by first name. How did you all correct this during renewal. My renewal is coming up soon. Any help you can offer is truly appreciated.

The last name can only be one. It could be based on caste, village, town, father's name, mother's name, husband's name, etc. Women can keep their family name from birth even after marriage. If you have two names in your last name, type it with a hyphen in between. It is becoming common now.

If you have many words in the first name(s), like Arun Kumar with a space between two words, type it as is, with a space between the words. If you have more than two, like Arun Shiva Kumar type them all with a space in between.

If your earlier passport/birth certificate had your name in one way, you have to follow the same. If you get married you can use the marriage certificate to change the name in your passport once. Then you have to follow that unless you get divorced. You can also officially change your name and use that record/certificate to change the name in your passport.

The way the name is printed in school records, business cards, etc., in the East (India and China) is different than in the West. But in the passport, visa, and OCI, there is a space for first name/given name and a space for family name/surname. Print those as suggested above.

Has anyone solved the parents "last name" "First name" issue? I have similar issue renewing my passport. Originally my parents passport has "Last name" "First Name". But the preview page is coming First name" "Last Name" . Please inform if you face any issue. Do we need to submit additional document?

I'm also in same situation ? Did you corrected the First name and Last name both in Govt of India site and VFS site ? And what documents need to submitted as proofs for parents name.

Appreciate if you could you provide your suggestions on this.

It's not uncommon for the NRI passport form to ask for given name and surname separately, which might change the sequence. If that's the case, you can go ahead and continue with the sequence they provide on the preview page. But if you're still unsure or looking for alternatives, it's best to reach out to the passport authorities or check their official website for the most up-to-date guidance. They'll have the best advice for your specific situation. By the way, have you ever heard about the Oregon ID? I came across this site where you can find some interesting insights. Just sharing info you might use.
