Following is from consulate website:
"Persons of Indian origin who acquired foreign citizenship on or before 31st May, 2010 should approach the Consulate for cancelling their passports if this has not been already done. They will have to pay cancellation charge of US $ 20 per person in addition to mailing charges of US $ 20 (per family). For those who have already got their passports cancelled after acquiring foreign citizenship, no further action is required. Cases of renunciation / surrender of passport, completed up to 31 May, 2010 will not be re-opened and the amount of US$ 175/- will not be refunded."
We got US citizenship on 4-15-2010 and applied for PIO card on 5-14-2010 and got PIO card with issue date mentioned on PIO card as 6-11-2010. We didn't received the surrender certificate even though we submitted $195 but "passport cancelled" is stamped on passport. Do we need to apply again for surrender certificate with $40 fees or since we applied before 5-31-2010 we don't need to get certificate as we are not sure how they are defining 5-31 cut-off date.
Thanks
