  • Need help about Indian visa processing time

    Hi,

One of my friend is travelling with her family to India on July 1 2010. Her tickets are already booked. They had applied for (I am not sure whether it is known as ) Tourist visa or Entry level visa, which is for 6 months.

They have not heard anything from Indian consulate yet. and consulate do not answer any phone calls, it directly goes to the voicemail. and neither reply to the e-mail quickly.....So she is not sure what is the status of her visa/passports as it is almost June end.

is there anyway to contact embassy and speak to someone directly?

Has anyone been dealing with similar problem. Any input would be really aprreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

This is referenced to the Indian consulate, San Francisco. Also, it has been over a month that she has sent her application and the processing time on website says 30 days or so.

Any reply/suggestion would be highly appreciated.

    Thanks Again.

Are the travelers Americans? Former Indian nationals? If so the correct visa to apply for would be an Entry visa, as tourist visas are no longer issued in those circumstances. Some additional information would be helpful.

Regarding getting information, did your friends contact Travisa or the Consulate? Travisa, who do the initial processing, do often respond to emails.

        Hello curtdfw,

My friend and her family are Canadian citizens, former indian citizens. They did get an e-mail sometime last week saying that their visa/passports are still under final review in the consulate office.

And she did e-mail, still waiting for their reply and called the Travisa office and left a message.

One more thing, the new rules of surrendering the Indian passports came into effect after they had sent their passport application with fees (i think it was $175) and they deducted the current fees ($20) & returned the rest of the amount.

If there is any other way to get a hold of them it would really good.

I will update if she hears anything from them.

        Thank you.

The likely reason for the delay is because they applied outside their own country, which always translates into more processing time. There's probably little to do other than wait. Good luck.

            Hi curtdfw,

I really appreciate your reply. They are in US working on TN visa, hence they had to apply from here.

            Thanks again.
