  • Apostilled birth certificate

I am applying for an OCI on the basis of foreign spouse.
my application has been put on hold due to ‘ birth certificate not apostilled’
According to the document checklist apostilled passport is required of a parent or grandparent only if applying for oci on the basis of parent or grandparent - not of the applicant.

The birth certificate of applicant has not been issued in USA or in India - anyone faced this before ? What did you do ?

I have raised this with ckgs ( SFO jurisdiction ) but seems their mail services are having issues ? Haven’t got the automated mail even though the feedback page shows ‘submitted we will get back to you in 24 hours ‘ message.

Any guidance will be much appreciated - worried about them sending the application back in 7 days if they don’t receive the document.

Mbg jevar - for what its worth, see my timeline. I actually forgot my birth certificate. VFS Houston sent me a link to upload it. I just uploaded a scan of my birth certificate. I did not apostille or notarize it.

I did have my marriage certificate apostilled in Austin, TX (we live in Houston) - it was a painful process and required us having to drive to Austin.I didnt want to repeat the same for my birth certificate.

      Mar 10: Application under process
Mar 18: Processed in VFS & transit to consulate
Mar 25: Reached consulate, review process
May 05: CGI Houston email for video interview
May 08: Video interview with spouse at consulate
      Jun 29: Documents printing
Jun 30: Dispatched from MEA, Received at Houston

Per my understanding, CKGS is no longer a provider of consular services - they moved to VFS a few months ago
