  • OCI for kids vs 10 year tourist visa

I have US citizen kids and have been debating for a while on should I apply OCI yet for them or continue to have 10 year tourist visa for them.

The reason is that for minors, OCI need to be renewed every 5 years when the US passport expires till they attain age of 18. This implies a cost of application and shipping every 5 years. So I had got 10 year tourist visa for my kids initially. This way, I only have to deal with visa process every 10 years instead of every 5 years if we get OCI.

Has any one done this and can anyone let me know if what I am doing is wrong or not cost effective?

Just do OCI. OCI holders are treated better at the airport. Renewing OCI is 25 dollars and is easy with 7 day processing times. Also in situations like this pandemic, only oci are allowed in India no visa

Thanks for your insights. I will apply for OCI when their current 10 year visa ends.
