  • Renunciation Timeline and Experience

Hi, I got my renunciation certificate today. Please find my timeline (Houston Consulate)

Sent on 11/28 (Saturday) using Fedex overnight purchased from VFS (Recommended)
    Delivered to VFS on 11/30
Received acknowledgement of delivery on 12/5
Case processed at VFS and sent to Consulate on 12/9
Received notification from VFS on 12/17 that my documents have been dispatched
    Delivered at home on 12/18.

Apart from the confusing instructions and not so efficient online system of VFS during application, everything went smooth for me. So completing the application was the most challenging and time consuming part for me.

Also, the Consulate has given a proper certificate (Not the one that you send in with the application as they used to do earlier so that's good).

Now onto OCI application - Hope it goes smooth as well!

    Congratulations Donald_Trump

I just submitted my OCI application earlier this week, and waiting for that ordeal now.

Thanks kiranboda I finished application for OCI and it went quick and smooth without any hiccups. Now ready to print forms and documents, get the $15 money order and ship.

Quick Question: Do we need to self attest (sign) all the supporting documents copies?

There is only one page to sign like on page 4 or 5 of the OCI application.

Thanks. My question was on self attesting supporting documents (Signing on all copies of the supporting documents) which is required as per instructions which are mentioned after the government application form (page 5-7) of the pdf that gets generated.

Donald_Trump I did not self-attest my copies. I read that instructions, but found it a bit weird to be self-attesting and didn't do it. Fingers crossed and hopeful that it will be okay.

My family got US citizenship few months back and I am in the process of renunciation Indian passport to apply for OCI card.
                1) We are a family of 3 and from instructions, I need to complete a separate renunciation certificate and separate indian embassy form for each of one of us. Is that correct?
                2) Can I send all 3 application forms in one packet and pay fees once?
                OR
if I need to send all 3 application forms separately and pay fees separately, how do I pay the fees? since VFS application website states "Note: Maximum one customer can be added for an application at a time." and I can pay fees only once which is about $USD 231.74 including round trip courier charges. Should I create a login for each one of us and use it to pay fees separately and ship separately?

Jot18 How long did it take before you got your US passport back after verification? Was this submission in San Francisco? Please confirm.

Did you face any difficulty uploading the documents for OCI? Did you combine multiple pages in 1 file when uploading? Also, when its ask for marriage proof, do you put your marriage date or the date the marriage was registered? Also, did you have to upload birth certificate?

                      Thanks!

sinnerman26 - Thanks! So I filled in and submitted at around 2:00am US time Sunday so it was afternoon in India and my OCI application and docs upload were lightning fast!

All documents should be separate file and not combined into 1 file (Passport copy has multiple pages so that can be in 1 file)

I just put the marriage date (That's not very important part of details they need so don't worry about it).

No, birth certificate is only needed in case of minors to prove relationship to Indian parents!
