  • SSN Update after getting USA citizenship

    Hey Everyone,

One of the things I noticed on the checklist after citizenship is to get to update your SSN, to reflect the status as US citizen instead of Permanent resident.

However, I am finding out that the Social security offices are closed for in-person visits. Has anyone recently accomplished this update of your SSN through mail or over the phone? What process did you follow?

    Thanks in advance.

kiranboda I think, if you post this in relevant forum, you may get an answer faster. For me, SSN guys were present at the naturalization oath ceremony so I had filled the form there itself and had received a new SSN card in the mail. But for you mostly, you will need to visit the SSN office whenever they open and fill the form for SSN updates. I don't think this can be done via mail or anything.
