Hi All,
I am happy to share my story with VFS and CGI SFO for renunciation application
Application received at VFS - 12/14
No activity for 10 days and suddenly got an email that my application is on hold due to certain "deficiencies". They would never tell me what it is and I ended up wasting $100 in phone calls.
I then escalated to the embassy at SFO, who then forwarded the same to VFS. To my utter surprise, the local SFO VFS team replied saying that the application will be forwarded to the embassy.
No additional documents, nothing. Wonder if this is a scam to get money out from us. I disputed the $100 with my credit card company and got it back.
12/28 - application sent to embassy
Everything went quiet from here on.
1/25 - received notification that my application has been approved and sent to me by courier
The pity here is that they do not send you the tracking number. I had to dig up my archives to find the courier labels that were generated and then started tracking it on FedEX.
This is a big lesson learned for me, to keep track of the return FedEX labels and enroll in automatic notifications. VFS will not send you the tracking number with the notification.
1/26 - Received the surrender certificate/along with cancelled passport.
Looks like it is taking 45 days from date of receipt at VFS, for the entire process to finish.
So, please be patient and escalate to the embassy when stuck in quagmire.
