  • VFS Renunciation Form - Passport Number field - Indian or US ?

On VFS site, Add New Customer section...

The 2nd field is about Passport number. Is it going to be Indian passport or newly acquired US passport ?

It just happened that when I entered US passport and the message was something like "Govt Reference Number (ARN)" not found "
and then when I entered Indian passport, it found the ARN and allowed me to go to the next step and submitted fees as well.

In the Application Confirmation email, I see the following columns

    Customer Name -
    Reference No
Passport Number - My Indian Passport Number (is this correct) ?
    Govt Reference Number -
Application Category - Naturalized after June 1 2010......

In the Document checklist too there is passport No - Do I need to enter Indian or US passport no ?

It is so confusing on VFS site, whereas the Indian Consulate Site was so clear. It clearly stated Foreign Passport field separately.

Thank you for the response in advance.

You need to enter the US passport details when it asks for passport information.
Provide details of the cancelled Indian passport only where they specifically ask for it.
Below is the response from VFS regarding this question:

Thank you for contacting the VFS Indian Visa , Passport & OCI Application Center Help Desk in the United States.

We understand that you are facing an issue while filling form in the vfs website.

Kindly fill US passport detatils (2nd and 4 th option ) and later provide indian passport expiry date.

In case of further assistance, please feel free to reply to the same email or you may contact us on ** 800 320 9625 and we will be glad to assist you.

I had the same dilemma. I sent an email to VFSglobal 2 days back for clarifiation. Since there was no response until today morning, I called their customer service center and asked this question. I was told that I should use the Indian passport no. However, I received an email response later today and it was to use US passport (exact same response as posted by arkaa).

I think its US passport only. I have two questions if someone can help with (specially if they have gone through this already):
          1. Now since I have submitted two applications and paid for the services, is there a way to change this? Or what are my options?
          2. Can I add application using the same vfsglobal account for entire family or do I need to create a new account for each? I understand that I cannot club separate renunciation requests together.

Please help me. I am trying to complete this stupid renunciation form on VFS Global. I have one child that was Indian Citizen and the form asked me "Do you have Minor Children, who are / were Citizens of India?*. When I clicked yes, it asks me following and I have no clue what details should be provided. Should this be Indian PP or US PP? When I print the renunciation form, it appears that Passport Number and Issue Date pertains to US whereas all address details are related to Indian PP. What a nightmarish VFS process!

Please help. When I preview the renunciation form after filling out this details, it displays following text on the form-

Minor Child 1,<xxxxx Name from Form> ,born in <Address details on form including Country> on DOB from the form fields below having a US / Foreign Passport Number : Passport nUmber entered belowIssued on Date of Issue in the form below.

Fields on VFS Global form as following:

            Surname (Last Name)
            First Name*
            Middle Name (If any)
            Passport Number*
            Date of Issue*
            Date Of Birth*
            Country*
            Pincode*
            Address 1*
            Address 2
            Address 3
            City*
            State / District*
