I just completed the naturalization process and need to apply for US passport and renunciate Indian citizenship. However, I am getting conflicting information from various websites on Indian passport renunciation.
One site says "Be a holder of valid U.S. passport or other foreign passport" as eligibility for renunciating Indian passport. That seems to be in agreement with VFS document checklist:
"PHOTOCOPY OF US/NON-US PASSPORT"
On immihelp it says: " you must surrender the Indian passport within 90 days of U.S. naturalization (or becoming a citizen of another country), even if the foreign passport is obtained later."
So, which one is it? (1) Should I start the renunciation process before getting the US passport? (2) If US passport is needed, what if it takes more than 90 days for the US passport to arrive?
Thanks!
