  • How to get a photocopy of the passport notarized for new OCI

As per Vfsglobal’s website, a notarized copy of the passport is required. I'm in north suburb of Chicago area and notaries here don't notarize copy of a document. I’m not sure on how to obtain a notarized copy of the passport. Please help.

Make a copy of the US PP. Then write a statement. "This is a true and correct copy of my U.S. Passport." they'll notarize that. I've done this at a UPS Store.

Notarization is different from "Attestation" that we are used to in India.

Notary can only confirm that they witnessed you signing a document. Hence they check your id (to confirm you are who you say you are on the document) and you have sign while they are watching. They do not care what document it is.

So, as Jot18 said above, take a copy of your US passport and add that line under it. Then sign it before a notary, and they will Notarize it then.

My bank, credit union didn't want to do it. Finally got it done at a UPS store. Thanks everyone.
