  • New OCI Checklist Question about Surrendered Indian Passport

    Hi,
Sorry for posting twice (my last post was unapproved). I'm new to posting in this forum. Anyways, I was going through the new OCI application checklist (https://services.vfsglobal.com/one-p...-for-adult.pdf) and I noticed that in the Proof of Renunciation section, they say, "Surrendered Passport along with the copy of the Surrender/Renunciation Certificate must be submitted for Indian passports surrendered after May 2010". I recently obtained a surrender certificate and cancellation stamp on my Indian passport a few weeks back, so do I need to send my original Indian passport to VFS for OCI application or just a copy of Indian passport showing cancellation stamp alongwith a copy of surrender certificate? I'm a little confused because in the very next section about Proof of Indian Origin, they say not to send original Indian passports, only copies.
Thanks in advance for your help!

You send a copy of the cancelled Indian passport and a copy your renunciation or surrender certificate.
The checklist clearly says which is copy and which is original.

    PROOF OF RENUNCIATION– COPY
    PROOF OF INDIAN ORIGIN– COPY
Except for the US passport, all other supporting evidence need copies only.
