  • VFS is telling that original Indian Passport is missing in the application

    Hi,

We just sent application for Indian citizenship renunciation with the original Indian Passport and all the required documents. After a week VFS issued a notice saying that 'Original Passport it missing from the application. Has anyone faced this scenario ? Can VFS re look from their side?

    Thanks,

Why do you have to send original indian passport? Usually a copy of Indian passport would suffice, that is what i did.

What you do have to send though is your non-Indian passport for which you seek the OCI. Maybe I am not understanding your question right.
New OCI foreign origin spouse to Indian Citizen:
    Feb 11: Submitted application
Feb 23: Received by VFS Houston
Feb 27: Missing birth certificate (BC)
    Mar 01: BC uploaded
    Mar 02: US passport received
    Mar 10: Application under process
Mar 18: Processed in VFS & transit to consulate
Mar 25: Reached consulate, review process
May 05: CGI Houston email for video interview
May 08: Video interview with spouse at consulate
    Jun 29: Documents printing
Jun 30: Dispatched from MEA, Received at Houston

I applied for renunciation of Indian citizenship. For that we need to send Original Indian passport which the Consulate stamps with 'Cancelled' stamp. I did send it to VFS but they are saying they did not receive it in the application.

kunnik VFS is known for poor processing and their high-handedness. Most probably, they misplaced it on their end somehow and trying to put the blame on you saying you only didn't send it. Escalate it to your area's Consulate.

Issue resolved. It seems they found the passport from their side and they silently removed it from the pending documents list.
