  • Spouse of indian citizen OCI application

    Hello everyone!

I am an Indian citizen married to an american (by birth) citizen. We are applying for an OCI card for him. We got married in Illinois but now live in Atlanta, Georgia. The OCI application is asking for an apostilled marriage certificate. Since our marriage was in Illinois, the marriage certificate can only be apostilled in Illinois. It is very difficult to do this. I can't believe they are asking for this.

What are our options? Can we get it notarized instead? Can we submit the original? Please help. So frustrated. :-(

    Thank you all so much!

ngupta324 Did you guys complete the application? We had to do the apostille in Texas and yes, they do need the apostille (not notarized etc) - I am doing it in the same category as you, check my timeline below.

My OCI got approved just today - it was a longer process for me than most people in this forum - perhaps because I am a foreign origin spouse and they had to do more checks? Not sure. But I am glad it is over. Good luck with yours.
