  • Surname Problem in OCI application

    Hi,

I need help with the name problem. I got married in India maiden " Singh"and after coming to US i got my name changed to married name "Patel".Now my recent passport have "Patel " name .I got divorced and changed my name to "Singh". I went to Consulate and ask for name change they refuse stating that i need to get divorce decree from India and need to give advertisement in Indian local newspaper that i have changed from Married to maiden.( which sound wierd that they don't need any advt from maiden to married)

I got my US citizenship , i have my name change from"Patel" to "Singh". I haven't taken divorce in India yet, but consulate ask me divorce decree from India with name change .

I applied for surrender certificate and my indian passport with "patel" has been cancelled. So i can't go to India without visa.Consulate is asking for valid passport with "Singh" which has already cancelled when i changed it to "patel"

Now problem is my Indian passport= Ms Patel
    US citizenship/US passport= Ms Singh

When i applied for OCI- they said this are 2 diff person. I submitted all my passports , divorce decree , US passports, but they are rejecting my application

i wrote then several letter explaining, spoke to vice consulate. No solution yet. I have submitted my application 4 times and all 4 times it been send back due 2 name change.

Any advice will appreciate for my OCI.

    Regards

    Ms Singh

    hi

I think people changing name after marriage is always facing problem like this. so people don't change your name keep your maiden as it is. myself like that only. no name change after my marriage , naturalization . i think the only solution for ur case is advertise your name change in indian local news papers,, ask your family members in india to do that..this is the only way.. best of luck..
