  • Applying for minor's OCI, while parent's OCI application pending.

Hi I'm a born US Citizen (parents born in India) and my wife recently became a US Citizen after recently being naturalized from Indian. A few weeks ago just applied for the OCI after receiving the India renunciation certificate and dont expect it to be completed for a couple months.

Because my wife's parents are unwell in India to try to travel soon we would like to apply for OCI for our 3 year old child (only because there is no other way to travel there on tourist visa currently) and see that the required documents is asking for either parent's Indian passport or OCI card while wife only currently has valid US passport and cancelled Indian passport. Would like to know if the mother's expired Indian passport would be sufficient proof of Indian origin or if the embassy will be strict about requiring either a valid Indian passport or OCI card.

Once again since wife's parents are unwell we would rather not wait for wife's OCI to be processed and then start child's OCI application. Otherwise another route we can pursue is using our child's grandparents documents who are Indian citizens living there as the basis for the OCI application. Any advice could suggest on this would be appreciated, thanks!
