  • Need help regarding minor new OCI application at NY CGI/Consulate

I am the father of a US born, US Citizen child aged 2 months. We are planning to apply for a new OCI card for her. Both my wife and I are Indian Citizens with valid Indian passports and our child will apply on the basis of our Indian Citizenship. We had a few questions related to the application and would greatly appreciate help from anyone who went through the process recently :
    1. For the Govt portal application
      1. Signature upload - What do we upload? Minor child’s thumb impression? Or one parent’s signature? Or both parents’ signatures? Or all three?
      2. For Indian Origin Proof – Minor child was born in USA and never held an Indian passport. We the parents still hold valid Indian Passports and never held any other citizenship. Do we just upload copies of our current Indian passports?
    1. For Physical Application package to be sent to VFS
      1. Do we need to send the original US passport of the minor child?
      2. For self-attested photocopy of passport – How will the minor child self-attest? Will thumb impression of the child and our signatures be sufficient to self-attest? Or do we need to do anything else?
      3. Who should sign on the Declaration page? Will it be thumb impression of the child? And signature of one parent on the bottom? Or both parents’ signatures?

    Govt portal application
Signature upload -- Your Child thumb impression needs to be uploaded.
Indian Origin Proof -- Parents Passport Copy ( first 3 and last 3 pages of both parents passports) , Your Marriage Certificate

    Physical Application package
    1. No need to send Original Passport. I just got a confirmation from them. If you send it, you need to pay additional mailing fee to get the passport back
    2. self-attested photocopy of passport -- I am not sure about this but just to be on the safer side, you can add your child's thumb impression and your signature?
    3. Who should sign on the Declaration page -- I just followed this link to sign the declaration page.

      Govt portal application.
      1. Yes, you need to upload the minor's thumb impression.
      2. Yes, you need to upload copies (first two and last two pages) of your passports. You also need to upload evidence of valid visa status for both the parents (Visa, approval notice etc)

      Physical Application package
      1. No.
      2. Minor can't self-attest. In our case, we signed it instead and put father and mother next to our signatures. There was no issue.
      3. There are two places where it says "signature of applicant". On the first one, we need to put baby's thumb impression and the parents need to sign the second one at the bottom. Parents signatures need to be notarized, so you need to sign in front of the notary. This and the parental authorization form are the two forms that need to be notarized.

      I hope this helps.

Had a quick question about the document upload.

            1. My minor's child's US passport does not have anything on the endorsements/amendment pages. Do I also need to include those pages on the upload?
            2. Did you upload the self-attested (Parents signatures) of the child's passport on the Govt portal or just a plain scan and sent the attested copy with the VFS application package?

Thanks in advance for your help!

              2. Upload - regular scan. Hard Copies - self attested (Minor's thumbprint, father's sign & mother's sign)
