Photographs for Indian passport renewal during the pandemic

I am applying to renew the passport of my mother who is 80. I understand she has to physically go to a passport office as part of the renewal. We will bring two photographs of her (4.5cm x 3.5cm). And are prepared to do biometrics (fingerprinting). But is it mandatory to have the office take another photograph? I am trying to avoid having to ask my mother to take her mask off in the passport office. If anyone has knowledge and recent experience in this process, kindly respond. Thank you.
