OCI application Government Reference Number

I am applying for OCI of my son who is US citizen and major. I am applying through VFS Global. The application asks me to add new customer and when I try to add my son's details, it asking me to provide OCI Government Reference Number. What is this and how can I get it?

You need to fill the OCI application on the Indian govt website and then you will get reference #.

you have to apply FIRST at the GOI portal for OCI services to get that file reference BUT before you apply there make sure you have ALL THE DOCS ready to upload!!
