  • Anyone who has already successfully applied for OCI ,advise/help?

    Hello Folks,
I just applied for Indian Renunciation -and my application has reached the Indian Embassy.
I wanted to start my OCI Application meanwhile.
Please help with these details as these are confusing
I am supposing -I need to fill in the govt application form for OCI on this link as the very first step.

    Please confirm me.
Also I have attached the Govt application form screenshot-
1)What is the current nationality I need to select-Weird question-but still wanted to ask-I am currently US citizen so will have to put as USA
2)What do we have to fill in for "Current Identification Number"?
3)Which Passport Number did you guys fill in-Indian or current USA Passport number?
4)What do we need to fill in for "Relation with the Root Indian"-I don't quite get this?
5)How did you guys take the digital photograph for the signature?

Anyone who has successfully applied for the OCI application -Please advise.

Download the sample form provided by VFS and go through it - https://www.vfsglobal.com/one-pager/...ample-form.pdf

    1) Current nationality - of course, you are American now. You became an American the moment you got your US passport, India does not recognize multiple nationalities.

    2) The "National Identification Number" is not a required field, you can leave it blank. But if you want, you can give your SSN.

    3) You have to give your current valid passport - which is the US one. Again, you are no longer an Indian, you have renounced it. If they want your IN passport number at any point, it will specifically say 'Indian Passport'. If it asks for just passport, then it is rereferring to you current valid non-Indian passport.

    4) On what basis are you applying for OCI? - on the basis of your previous Indian citizenship (you were an Indian before you became American). So, root Indian is "SELF. What is there not to get? If you are applying for OCI on the basis of parents or grand parents, then you choose accordingly.

    5) What do you mean? Go to a photo studio and get a couple of passport photos. Now-a-days they provide a digital copy if you request, or you can scan it at home/library. Same for signature, sign on a piece of paper and scan it (or take a phot with your phone) to get a digital copy.

You are seriously over thinking it. There is nothing confusing or complex about the OCI application, it is just 2 pages of personal particulars (name, address, passport, parents etc) and a page of yes-no questions. Going by Indian standards, that is a very simple and straight-forward application form.

Just read the instructions carefully - every section, and then go through the provided sample form in detail and you won't have any more doubts.
