  • Update on my Renunciation Process_Need info for OCI application.

    Hello Folks,
    2 things wanted to share:
1)I applied for my Renunciation Application last month and below are my updates-Hope it helps to folks who are awaiting their Ren certificate .
I mailed my docs on Nov 1st 2021-and I received my Renunciation Certificate/Cancelled Passport(in VFS courier Fedex)on 23rd Nov-So close to 3 weeks I must say-My center was Washington DC.
    Pretty Fast I must say-

2)I am about to mail my OCI documents on 29th Nov and I wanted to know if we need to send our physical cancelled Indian Passport in the envelope?I don't think so as the OCI checklist says only copy ,but still wanted to check-If we just need to send our renunciation /surrender certificate or we need to send our physical Indian Passport also.

    Response is highly appreciated.
All the best to all the folks who are applying!

    Thank You.

No need to send cancelled passport. But you have to upload scanned copy of biodata page + page which has cancelled stamp on it. Also you have to upload scanned copy of renunciation certificate (I uploaded color copies).
You also have to send in photocopy of the now cancelled Indian passport pages (bio + stamp page) and renunciation certificate.

I'm also in Washington DC and OCI is taking a lot of time here compared to other consulates. Mine is already pending for 2 months now. Good luck

      Thank You for the response.
renunication application they took 3 weeks.OCI as mentioned by you might take time,Lets see.

By d way Is it mandatory to upload/send coloured photocopy of the received renunciation certificate.Reason I m asking since you made a specialmention about colored one and also I tried taking xerox copies at my home of the ren certificate and everytime I take the xerox copy,it turns out with extremely dark background. Was that the reason you took colored photocopy of Ren certificate?

For upload/scan, it doesn't cost anything extra to upload or scan color copies so that's why I uploaded color copies of naturalization certificate, cancelled passport, renunciation certificate and whatever else they require to be uploaded hahaa. So just scan them in color. However, for physical copies I sent in black and white copies of everything except the cancelled passport. Reason being that the cancelled stamp was too light in black and white copy. But renunciation copy in black and white was just fine for me
