Name on Renunciation Certificate

I have submitted my Renunciation package twice. And both times it has been rejected.
The reasons for the rejection are quite vague from VFS.

I think the issue boils down to:

1. Should the RENUNCIATION CERTIFICATE have my current name (as on the current US passport) ?

2. Or, should it have my maiden name (as on the old expired INDIAN passport) ?

Can anyone help on this please ...

I am preparing my renunciation package again .. for the 3rd time now.

If there is a name change between your old Indian documents and new US documents, then you should include a copy of the name change order (from a US Court) or a notarized affidavit explaining the name change.

When I filled my renunciation certificate, I entered my name as in US passport, but they printed a separate certificate with the name as it was in Indian passport. So I guess it doesn't matter which one, but you should attach proof or affidavit stating you are the same person referred to in both documents.

I am facing same issue. Did you find which name should be entered on the VFS Global Renunciation certificate form AND which name on the Indian website (application form)

The name on the Renunciation certificate should exactly match the one given on your Indian passport, as the purpose is to have the Consulate certify that the holder of the Indian passport has surrendered the document due to acquiring another citizenship.

If one undergoes name change as part of Naturalization/or thru the Court system and your US passport reflects that be prepared to show all documentation as well (point made above on another post as well). This is critical especially to ensure your name change is documented, and you can get the OCI to reflect the New name vs the one on your old Indian ppt.

Thank you. I just called VFS global. They said everything should match what is on the Indian passport. Even though Renunciation certificate form on the VFS global says enter name as per the new foreign passport, which is misleadig. I will update here how it goes.

Hey traja01, did you get your renunciation? I am in a similar situation where the name on my Indian passport does not exactly match the one on my US passport. Any help would be appreciated.

My name and father name was incorrect on my Indian passport. I applied according to whatever was on my Indian passport. I had to attach one and same person affidavit for my dad and mail original notarized.

1. format is - <surname> <firstname> SINGH AJAY
2. even though provided middle name KUMAR in the forms, the certificate does not show it

for those who have gone through will that create issue with VFS or OCI later. both indian/us passports have matching first/middle/surname

I am thinking of just using PDF file, and fill it out as AJAY KUMAR SINGH -- will that mess up more? or just go with VFS messup?

Could you please tell what you ended up doing ? I am having the same issue. My indian / US passports have matching first/middle/surname, but, after filling in the application form, the renunciation certificate generated has my name as LASTNAME FIRSTNAME. I was expecting FIRSTNAME MIDDLENAME LASTNAME

Hi All,
Need few quick inputs regarding my Renunciation Application and the next steps:
1. The Renunciation Certificate generated by the VFS has my Last Name first and then my Given Name. Should I proceed with it as it is or use the PDF and fill details on my own?
2. If I affix 1 photo on the Application form and 1 additional lose, is that okay or should I submit 2 additional photos ?
3. I am planning to go to India towards year-end, in case my Renunciation doesn't come timely, hope I can apply for eVisa and that would not be dependent on the Renunciation Certificate. Please confirm.

Talked to a friend of mine who recently applied, the VFS generated certificate format <surname><firstname> was okay and he didn't had any issues with it.

I was actually trying the PDF file version, and figured out it may cause issue since the date format is mm/dd/yy, and this will definitely created issue with VFS. From what I heard they get picky and reject application if the date format is incorrect.
