Hello,
I was wondering if I could request a quick clarification on behalf of my fiancé who is contemplating changing her last name (after marriage).
I read the procedure for passport name change after marriage on:
/name-change-correction-in-indian-passport-in-usa/
I'm an Indian citizen pursuing my PhD in the U.S on an F-1 visa. My fiancé plans to change her last name to adopt mine after marriage. She currently resides overseas. However, due to strict timelines, she plans to travel to the U.S with me, on an (F-2 dependent) visa issued in her existing (maiden) name. If she plans to apply for a change of name in her Indian passport once she returns to the U.S, my understanding is that the U.S visa issued in her maiden name does not need to change and will stay valid for international trips so long as both passports (old passport with U.S visa stamping as well as new passport with changed name) are carried along for any trip she may undertake.
I was wondering if I could request to receive clarification on the following:
1. Will she be able to apply for a visa under her changed name when her visa status needs to change from F-2 to F-1 (if she chooses to study in the U.S)?
2. Will she have trouble with H-1B or U.S green card application processing, for the future, in case a previous F-2 visa was issued under a maiden name and a subsequent F-2/F-1 visa was issued in her changed name?
The documentation available online was a little confusing and I would really appreciate your timely input.
Thanks very much.
