  • Is OCI worth it for infant?

I am a current OCI holder and son is born in US. I was originally planning on applying for a OCI for him, but now that India is reopening the 5 year tourist eVisa, I am considering just doing that to avoid the tedious OCI application. Is there any benefit to the OCI over a 5 year tourist visa for a 1 year old baby?

OCI is for life. Once you get, no need to renew till the kid turns 20, and then one more renewal at 50. That's it.
Plus lots of benefits in India - almost on par with Indian citizens in terms or working, income, business etc. Just a few restrictions (no govt position, can't purchase farm land etc).

IMO, definitely worth the little extra effort. But you could also get visa now if you are in a hurry, and get the OCI later.
