  • OCI application

I applied for OCI application as both my parents were born in India. I hold British passport and was born in Zambia.
However HCI have sent the application back as I do not have their birth certificate or their original Indian passport. Only thing I have is copy of their foreign passport which states their birth place in India and in my mother’s case a copy of an official letter stating her acquisition of Zambian citizenship, in that letter her birth place in clearly mentioned. HCI asked me to either send documented evidence of parent’s birth place. This is not possible as no such documents are available. They also asked me to produce a certificate from 1st class judicial/ Executive/ Special or District Magistrate stating that my parents/ grandparent were born in India. I did that by way of a notarised document stating the fact that parents birth place and sent all the documents.
Only to be returned again by HCI. Now they are once again asking for proof of my parents’ Indian origin/ surrender certificate/ OCI copy/ Nativity Certificate. I am assuming only one of which is required. The easiest option is to get a Nativity certificate. The question I have who should apply for Nativity certificate? Should it be me the applicant or my parents? Has anyone applied OCI with Nativity certificate?
I will be grateful any help in this matter.
