  • PIO Card Status - Washington DC Embassy

    Hello Friends,

I had applied for PIO card for our new born daughter on Aug 16. 2010, till date i've not received the card. The DC embassy claims dispatch of the card in 45 business days.

I can see various threads here where members are complaining about the status, there is no such thing in world where we can track.
    • They don't respond to emails.
    • They don't answer phone calls.
    • Most of the times the voice mail is full.

I'm not sure what is the purpose of providing the contact information on the DC embassy website where no one cares too respond or answer your queries. This is the biggest gap of communication and we feel India is growing nation when such basic communication is not in place. Its shame on our part. I'm sure many members are facing the same issue.

What is the way to get these people answer, whom should we log complain to?, IMMIHELP we need your support here as there are many voices raising.

    PIO Card status - DC

    Hello Imish,

Did you get any response from them, I applied pio card for my son on Aug 20 2010. Still i didn't get any response from them. I have been trying to reach them with the phone no given online for almost a month, but end up in vein.. :-(. One day a lady picked up and she said they don't entertain any phone calls and to know the status she asked me to DC embassy office. Please let me know if u have any update on the same. I booked tickets for diwali... I'm struggling hard to get the pio card.

    Thanks,
    Harshu

      Finally PIO Card arrived

      Hello Harshu,

I can certainly understand your condition, I was in the same boat untill today evening I received the PIO in UPS mail. I would only say "patience" is the key here, not sure what else can be done. I think you should get it soon. If you don't receive it in this week, please visit them personally after counting 45 working/business days from the next day they received it.

Just for other readers i'm posting the details here for sending the application:

I applied for my daughter's PIO card to Embassy of India, Washington DC. Below documents were sent to them via USPS (Delivery Confirmation)

      1. PIO card application form – 1 in Original & 1 photocopy
      2. Daughter's 4 Photographs - 1 pasted other stapled
      3. Daughter's Birth Certificate Notarized Copy
      4. Daughter's US Passport Copy - 1st 4 and last 2 pages notarized
      5. Parents’ Indian passport Copy - 1st 4 and last 2 pages notarized including all visa pages
      6. Proof of Residence – Electrcity Bill and DL notarized
      7. Parent's H1B petition notarized.
      8. Money Order of $205 (included $185 fee + $20 return mail charges

*** All the supporting document sent along with the application we photocopies duly notarized***Note: This was at the time when i applied, kindly verify at the DC Embassy website

Application Sent on Aug 17 2010
Reached Embassy of India on Aug 20th 2010
Received PIO Card on Oct 18th 2010

It took exactly 39 working days (excluded the holidays) counting from Aug 23 2010.

I hope this helps everyone who are applying for PIO card or waiting on status. Onething for sure, all tracking is disabled. Either visit them personally ONLY after 45 woking days is the solution.

      Thanks!!!

I know it is indeed nightmare... all i would suggest is, if 45 working days has been completed after they received your application. You should go in-person with all the documentation and ask them the status.

But what you are saying that your MO/Certified check is not cashed, than this is really scary.

I paid cash at the embassy counter. I also had to pay the postage fee as they refused the card pick up option from embassy.
