  • different name and birth place in passport and birth certificate

i am in the process of applying for a green card and i am facing problem, please help me out
part of my name in passport is not same as in birth certificate ,and in my passport place of birth is the taluk and not the village i was born in .please read what it says in my passport and birth certificate and please say will it create a problem for me while processing green card .
    .

    My birth certificate reads as:

This is to certify that the following information has been taken from original record of birth which is the register for Konda village of Sangram taluk of south kanara district of Karnataka .

    Name: Laxmi Gopal Acharya Shastry

Name of father: Gopal Krishna Acharya Shastry
Name of mother: Sukanya Gopal Acharya Shastry
    sex: female
    date of birth 01-12-1977

    Place of birth Konda

    regidtration no 009

    Date of Ragistration: Sept 12,1999

    My Passport reads as:

    Surname: Shastry
    Given Names: Laxmi Gopal
Place of Birth: Sangram - Karnataka
    date of birth 01-12-1977

(my other documents 10th, 12th, marraige certificate all has my name as laxmi gopal shastry(acharya family name is not included)
Date of birth is same in all the documents

    Q. 1. Though Konda is small village in the taluk of Sangram, my passport doen't carry the village name Konda. Similary my birth certificate does'nt carry the name Sangram in the place of birth column. However first two sentences states that Konda comes under taluk Sangram, Karnataka state. Would it be problem during 1-485 processing for green card?

Q.2. My full name in passport reads as Laxmi Gopal Shastry while my full name in birth certificate reads as Laxmi Gopal Acharya Shastry

    Would this be a problem?
do i need to take any affidavits (one and same person affidavit)
    and what should be done?

please suggest what should be done

    Go Ahead with Passport Name

Please use the name as on your passport. You will never be using your birth certificate again except in India for may be some reason...

Your passport is proof of your birth date.

In all future stages your name on your Indian passport should be the same as the name on your US passport. This is only for futute if you decide to obtain your US passport.

The place of birth has no reference. Wherever asked you must print INDIA as the place of birth.

Good Luck with your green card application.

These are not an issue as long as you can explain them if asked. I had difference in name on my birth certificate and passport - I obtained an affidavit from the Panchayath office indicating saying both were the same person. I also had an affidavit from my mother on a stamp paper saying both names were for the same person. It was never needed.

Everyone's case is different. To avoid any delays, it is wise to have some documentation or maps or such if any questions arise. Just remember that a lot of people have these issues. Good luck.

Also, you should post this questions on a Greencard related forum to get feedback from recent applicants. Good luck.
