Indian Passport Re-Issue: Gay Marriage in USA and Impact on Passport Application

I am applying to renew my Indian passport. I notice in the application, there is a request to specify marriage status. I am married in the USA to my spouse (both males) and my status in USA is based on marriage. I am unsure how to fill the application form to renew the passport as single or married.

As India does not recognize gay marriage (yet) - should I leave it as single? Or should I indicate married, provide the notarized marriage certificate, and my spouse's passport details.

Not sure what the appropriate way to go about this is, and welcome any help or insight from the community here.
