  • Consulate hasn't returned original Surrender Certificate

    Hi All,

I got my US citizenship in July 2010 and applied for OCI card in Aug. As the OCI was being delayed and I had to travel to India in Dec I applied for a single entry visa.

Along with the required docs that Travisa had asked me to enclose, I had also included the original canceled Indian passport and original surrender certificate (checklist did not mention whether they needed the copy or original). I got my visa in 6 days and they returned the canceled Indian passport but not the surrender certificate.

I called Travisa and they are claiming they are not responsible and that the Indian consulate would have it. I have written to the consulate but don't expect any response. I need to collect my OCI card once it arrives and will need this surrender certificate. What can I do at this point and are there any chances of the Indian consulate holding on to my surrender certificate until then?

    Thanks!
