Renewal of Passport

Dear sir/madam

Working as a postdoctoral fellow in university of pittsburgh, pittsbugh. My passport validity is up to 13th of june 2011. Let me know can i renewal my passport in usa. Last month 29th I joined here and iam staying here with one phd student and my name was not entered in lease agreement and I have no driving licence. I heard that for passport renewal residence certificate is required. What about in my case to renewal the passport. Let me know how much time it will take for renewal and can i send passport through postal for renewal. Iam waiting for your valuable reply.

Indian Passport Renewal from Chicago Consulate

Hi,

My passport is expiring after 4 month in April 2011 after 10 years. It was issued in 2001.
Now I am applying for passport renewal at Chicago consulate for 10 years. Please help me in selecting the right services in online application like whether I should select "Fresh Passport" or "Re-issue of passport" in desired services. I have some confusion as Consulate website has Renewal service under "Re-issue of Passport" section where as Imm help forum says it should be "Fresh Passport". Please help. Does it really matter if I submit my application under Fresh passport section.
