  • OCI After turning 20 years - Several confusing questions

My son just turned 20 years old. He already had OCI card done 10 years ago. His USA passport is still the same. We have not renewed USA passport after turning 20 years old.

    Here are my questions:

    1) Do we need to renew OCI card because he turned 20 years old , even though he has not renewed his USA passport after turning 20 yrs.

    2) Can we renew the OCI card anyway now even if we have not updated USA passport.

    3) Once you complete online application , it says submit the documents to the mission. We are in Georgia, USA and I believe we come under Houston Texas. The online info does not state: a) Exactly where to send application, what address, addressed to whom, b) Do we send the photocopies or the actual original documents , what if the original documents get lost. c) how do we send documents there, FedEX, USP
    S etc.

    4) Do you send any self addressed envelope with it or it's optional ?

    5) How we pay any fees , if yes, how do we pay it online or you just send check with the application.

This whole thing is very confusing

I have the EXACT same questions, it is all so confusing. Have you gotten any messages from the OCI website or any updates in status after submitting parts A and B online? Did you end up sending the documents?

I am in California and know that the documents need to be sent to a specific address in San Francisco as required by VFS Global which is the agency that manages in take of OCI applications. Is VFS Global not managing the applications for the consulate in Houston?
BTW, I am in the process of filing my own OCI after getting citizenship. I started on the India gov website, filled part A, but clicking on the link to start Part B brought me back to the start :-( Now I can't seem to get back to my half completed application! What a waste of my time!! Should have just obtained 5 year online visa.

        1) Do we need to renew OCI card because he turned 20 years old , even though he has not renewed his USA passport after turning 20 yrs.
A: No, renew OCI after getting a new passport after turning 20. If the child gets a new passport at age 19 (18, 17, or 16), do the misc service and update the new passport number.

        2) Can we renew the OCI card anyway now even if we have not updated USA passport.
        A: It is not recommended.

A: This process seems to have changed. I will wait to see if any renewed OCI recently.
Here is the step by step instructions link, but I am not 100% sure if I can understand it.

Based on my understanding for OCI renewal, you need to send for US citizens. (Someone, please verify this)
        (i) Completed application with photo affixed and signed
        (ii) Copy of new passport
(iii) Last original OCI and copies of first and last two pages (The reason I am saying "last original" is because you could get a new OCI for every passport renewal before the new rule requires only after 20 and 50). You send the original OCI. When you take a copy of the OCI the first 2 pages come in one page of the copy, same for the last two pages - you attach 2 papers of the copied items)
(iv) Copy of employment/work letter, if you are working (I am not sure, it is there in the list)
        (v) Driving license
(vi) Affidavit in lieu of originals (list passport and driving license here)
(vii) Udentaking by the OCI applicant (you say you own all the responsibilities for anything wrong!)
        (viii) Consent letter
        (ix) Fee receipt from VSF

        4) Do you send any self addressed envelope with it or it's optional ?
A: IMHO, use the shipping service provided by VFS for less headache.

        5) How we pay any fees , if yes, how do we pay it online or you just send check with the application.
A: When you go through the process of filing the application in VFS, you will be able to pay the fees. I suggest using the online payment.
