Getting Indian visa while Surrender Certificate and OCI application pending at Housto

Hi,

I am a Naturalizen US citizen of indian origin and resident of Atlanta GA. I have applied for Surrender Certificate and OCI at the houston consulate in the same envelope about 2.5 months ago. Since then there is no status update on my case.

Now for family reason, I have to travel to indian in Jan 2011. So I need to apply for indian visa. Now as per the new law, I can only apply for Entry Visa and to get the visa, along with other documents I need to have proof of my Surrender Certificate or Cancellation of Indian passport.

My que to experts is,

After trying to contact Consulate General of India, houston 100 times via phone and email abt status of my indian passport cancellation and not getting any reply or solution,

How do I get my indian passport back from these people so that I can atleast get indian visa for travisa?

Apply Visitors Visa

For Houston Consulate Only

It is taking 5-8 weeks to get an Entry Visa. The consulate has requested applicants to apply for visitors visa if they are travelling within the next 5 weeks. This visa is given the same day.

For people stuck with their passports at the consulate have no choice but to visit the consulate in person. Other option will be to send the visitor visa application directly to the consulate with a cover letter. Mention that your passport is with the consulate giving them the reference OCI application number with all details including the Mail tracking number.

The above is a temporary arrangement till the backlog of Entry Visa is cleared by the consulate.

Trying to call them or sending emails/faxes will not help.

Thanks for the instant reply. Is it official that Houston consulate and Tra accepts tourist visa application from indian origin US naturalized citizens in case of urgency or emergency.

How do I apply for tourist visa when there is no tourist visa option for indian origin people in Travisa online application?
