  • OCI for Minor born in USA - Parents Indian Passports - Old ones needed or not?

    For OCI for Minor Applications, we need to provide parents's Indian Passports Copy. Do we need to old/expired indian passport copies of parents or just the latest one copy is good enough?

    Check this link -->

    Yes, the latest passport copy is needed. Go through the list and get them all ready before you start the application. I suggest printing the document in the link above. You first fill out the application on the Indian Govt website and create an account of VFS to pay for the fees, self-attest all copies, notarize the required document/forms, and attach all the documents to the application you filed on the govt website,

    When you start the application, please note the temporary application id (take a screenshot) before you forget. If something doesn't work or you need to come back to finish the application, you need the temp id. Once you finish the application, you get a file reference number in the email. You use that from then to update or check the application progress/status.

      This is very helpful. Just want to confirm that self attested documents need to be sent with physical application package only and I upload scanned PDFs of the original on the online portal? Thanks!

        Yes, self-attest and attach all those documents you uploaded to the govt website. The checklist tells you what to be notarized and what to copy and/or original. Follow the checklist. Go through it several times, line by line. You will save time and worries later. Many of the questions people ask in this forum are answered by the checklist. The checklist changes with the regulations change. Use the checklist to make notes for to-do and completed requirements.

          Thank you. I am following checklist and getting documents self attested or notarized accordingly. But still I got
          confused if I need to upload attested documents. Looks like I just need to send self attested documents in physical application and not upload them. Upload just scanned PDFs.

              Hi,
              There is a section for parents signature in the OCI application (printed from the Indian Govt Website) . Should we get this notarized?
              VFS Checklist does not ask us to notarize it. But there are other forum posts where they say that we need to get that notarize.

              Please let me know.
