Need information on extension of passport/Need pages added

Hi

I need to get additional pages added to the passport as I have run out of pages on my current passport. The passport is a 20 year passport with validity till 2016. I have filled in the online application # USAS14421210. I have an appointment of Jan 24th. To clarify, what are the next steps:
1. I mail my current passport to you with this application and supporting documentation?
2.
Once I have the appointment, do I get the extended passport pages and the original passport back at that time?
