  • OCI Application Troubles

I am in the process of submitting an OCI application for myself( Also plan to do for spouse and kids):

On the Indian Govt.'s website, there are a bunch of documents listed out on the drop down, but has no indication as to what is mandatory and what is applicable for what case. Would appreciate your response on the below:

1.> Do i also need to upload spouse's passport, while i am submitting my application? I did not get my US citizenship on marriage basis. So not clear if this would be applicable to me.
2.. Do i need to upload 'Joint Declaration of Subsisting of Marriage'? I saw a template somewhere of this document, and it seems to be needing to be notarized by a notary. Is this applicable for someone like me who got a green card from the employer and then citizenship?
3.> Also do these documents need to be self attested before uploading them to the site. Please tell me it's not needed. That would mean printing out al these copies, signing them and then re scanning.

    Thanks for your time.

    Regards,
Atheist turning into Believer courtsey OCI

Get the document checklist from the VFS website. You must send those documents (original, copy, or notarized, as mentioned in the checklist). Try to match the documents listed in that checklist to attach to the application with the government website drop-down menu.

For joint declaration and such, find if there is a template available on the VFS site or someone shared in this forum. Or make one.

I uploaded the scanned/printed pages before self-attesting. Some say you have to self-attest and scan the pages. (I don't know how you self-attest a passport copy. Maybe, like you say, you make a copy, sign, and scan again.) For VFS, self-attest all copies. Self-attest is an Indian thing that will never go away!
