Checking eligibility to apply OCI (overseas citizen of India) for adopted child.

hi, I am a Permanent US resident of Indian origin, legally married to a US citizen of Taiwanese origin in the US. This is our second marriage. My wife has a 7 yr old daughter with her ex-husband who is also a US citizen. Their separation was a case of domestic violence & her biological father has not been paying for child support, neither has he made an effort to see his daughter for the last 6.5 years.

I am in the process of adopting their daughter and wanted to know if she will be eligible to apply for OCI once the adoption is complete. Alternatively, is there any other visa that could help her (daughter) stay in India for longer duration. Me & my wife plan to move back to India in a few years & so wanted to know all our options.

I do not see any reference to "adopted child" in government regulations or guidelines for OCI. It may be worth getting an OCI for your wife and a visa for your child; try visiting a regional FRRO to apply for an OCI/visa extension when you are in India.
