  • Hold PIO card but apply for OCI

I received my PIO card in 2007. In 2010 I got married. I changed my last name on my US passport to my husbands name. I would like to apply for a OCI card, but not sure what to do about the name change. My PIO card still has my maiden last name. Also i'm planning to go to India mid May. I want to know can I apply for the OCI card without changing my last name on the PIO card? Also, do I need to send the same documents for OCI since I already have a PIO card? How long will this process take in Chicago branch? Please help.

    Thanks

You can apply for OCI card in your new name. You need to supply your marriage certificate copy as the proof of name change.

You don't need to get it changed in PIO first.

Thank you for the information. I'm worried about the processing time in Chicago. How long does it usually take? If I don't receive the OCI card by the time I leave, can I still travel to india on my PIO card with my marriage certificate?
