PIO card query

my son in citizenship with passport expire after two year.we have PIO card for same duration.

Is there any process we have to contact us consulate other than his passport renewal. I heard we have to go every 6 months for something...please guide me ASAP?

description says "for all foreigners arriving in India on a Visa" We came with US passport and PIO card. Is it still necessary?
