Using PIO after entry visa Expiry

Hi all

My son is a US citizen.
He visited India on entry visa bcoz there was a delay in getting PIO card.
After he visited India,I received his PIO card.
Now the PIO card is in India which i have couried my wife.
My son's visa is expires on April 19th 2011.Can he just stay in India based on the valid PIO card.

If yes then does he need to register this PIO card any where?

Registration not required for less than 180 days stay.
